Sal Island

Sal Island

Sal Island, located in the Cape Verde archipelago, is one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Its name, meaning “Island of Salt,” comes from the salt mines that once played an important role in the island’s economy during the colonial period. Today, Sal welcomes visitors from all over the world with its golden sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and year-round sunshine. Beyond its stunning beaches, Sal Island offers a wide range of experiences, from exciting water sports such as kitesurfing and diving to boat trips, whale watching, and exploring the remarkable salt mines of Pedra de Lume. The island also has a vibrant culture, expressed through its music, local cuisine, traditions, and the warm spirit of its people.
